Download LaserTyping 4.5 for Windows Vista using the link below:
You will be downloading a zipped self-extracting executable file called 'LaserTypingWinVistaDL.exe'.
Please note that once this file is on your computer you may or may not see the 'exe' extension, depending on how you have set your computer's folder options. The default is to not show file extensions, i.e., once you have downloaded the file it may just be called 'LaserTypingWinVistaDL' (i.e., without the '.exe' extension).
In a file list, you will see 'LaserTypingWinVistaDL' listed as an 'application'.
Download the file to your Vista desktop or 'My Download Files' if you have administrative privileges. (Be sure to read the note about the Windows desktop folders below.)
Where you download 'LaserTypingWinXPDL' to is not important. What is important is that you be able to find it after your download.
If you cannot find it, you have two choices:
1. download the file once more, making a note of where you're downloading it to or
2. go to Start-Search and search 'All Files and Folders' for 'LaserTypingWinVistaDL'.
Once you find the file, single or double-click the filename to open it (whether it's a single- or a double-click depends on the preferences set on your computer).
Alternately, you can right-click the filename then click 'Open' to open it.
You will be opening a WinZip 'extract' dialogue (a gray box with one field ) to unzip the files and folders the LaserTyping program needs to run.
'LaserTypingWinXPDL' (the setup/installation file you are opening) is set to open on your desktop using the 'unzip to' syntax:
'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop'
unless you change the default in the 'unzip to' field.
The LaserTypingWinVistaDL file will create a folder named 'LaserTypingWinVistaDL'. It will have the following structure:
'LaserTyping' (or, as noted above, 'LaserTyping.exe' )
- the 'Xtras' folder containing 2 files:
(i) DirectOS.x32'
(ii.)'DirectSound.x32'- the 'Lessons' folder containing 1 file:
(i.)'BibleLessons.txt'.
Please do not delete any of these files. They are all necessary, including the 'Xtras' folder.
To start the program,
1. open the 'LaserTypingWinXPDL' folder (the folder you just created).
2. open the 'LaserTyping' file. (Note: this file may also be called 'LaserTyping.exe'.)
Your LaserTyping spaceship command center will be visible on your screen. In the blue field beneath the spaceship window, you can enter either the word 'demo' or the unlock code sent to you upon purchase. The first four lessons are fully functional without the unlock code.
Be sure to have your sound turned on and the speakers correctly oriented - i.e., the 'left' speaker on the left and the 'right' speaker on the right.
If the LaserTyping program says 'left' for a key on the left and the sound comes from a speaker on your right, reverse the speakers' locations. This is important for LaserTyping's audio prompts.
When you start the LaserTyping game, the first letter to type will be 'a'. It's on the very left of the home row ('asdfghjkl;'). The letter will appear and you 'shoot it down' by firing your laser cannon. If you do not, it will crack your windshield. If this happens, just continue with the game.
If you can't find the 'a' key right away, you will receive further prompts until you shoot it down, after which the next key will be the 's', directly to the right of the 'a' key. You will soon learn the finger color coding. Always remember to begin with your fingers on the home row and nowhere else. Directions will always be given based on the position of your fingers on that home row.
Note: the full LaserTyping program is the same as the demo; you will not have to download it again to move up to the full program.
The program starts with basic 'learn your keys' lessons then progresses to more advanced letter combinations, word combinations, sentences, etc. You will see what to type next below the space screen.
Note that you can move to any lesson or switch to any skill level at any time. Click the 'setup' button to change this. The screen activation sound disappears when you practice at the intermediate or advanced levels.
There are 111 lessons included in the basic program.
To use external lessons, e.g., the King James Bible verses, click on the 'Lessons' button. Depending on where you have installed LaserTyping, you may need to navigate to the 'LaserTypingWinXPDL' Lessons folder first then click on 'BibleLessons.txt' to load them.
And that's it!

A note about the Windows Vista desktop.
Windows Vista can be configured differently for different users. This means, for instance, that 'Jane' can have a different 'desktop' than 'John' or 'Mary'.
The default location for the installation of LaserTyping in the zipped self-executable installation file dialogue (the one you downloaded) is:
'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop'
the Windows default desktop.
Note that the installer will create a folder named 'LaserTypingWinVistaDL' where your LaserTyping files will reside.
The default desktop location ('C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop' will normally work for all users of the computer.
If you install Windows to the default location and do not see it on the desktop you use, it may be because the installation folder ('LaserTypingWinVistaDL') has been installed on the desktop of another user of the same computer (i.e., in another 'desktop' folder).
If this is the case, remember that the Windows 'desktop' is just a folder like any other on your computer, just one given the name 'desktop' by Microsoft.
Search your computer (via 'Start-Search') for the word 'desktop' to see what folder your own desktop might be in. All desktops except 'C:\Desktop' will be in subfolders of 'C:\Documents and Settings\' Your desktop folder will contain icons for other programs on your desktop which you may recognize and be in a subfolder preceded by your chosen user login name. Move or copy the entire 'LaserTypingWinVistaDL' folder - i.e., including its contents - to your desktop folder if it's in someone else's desktop folder.
Having multiple 'LaserTypingWinVistaDL' folders in multiple desktop folders on your computer will present no problems.
