LaserTypingDL.sit

Installation Instructions for Windows XP Demo/Full Program

Please Print and Read

Please Read

You will be downloading a zipped self-extracting file called 'LaserTypingMacDL.sit'. It is a 'Stuffit' file, hence the '.sit' extension.

Download the file to your desktop.

Once it's on your desktop, drag it to the 'Applications' folder and open it from there. If you do not own Stuffit or the Stuffit program on your computer is not working, you can still expand (unstuff) the file using the free expander from Stuffit available http://my.smithmicro.com/win/stuffitexpander/download.html

Once the file has been unstuffed (to a folder named 'LaserTypingDL'), you should see the following folder structure:

'LaserTypingDL.app' and '.DS_Store'

- the 'Xtras' folder containing 5 files:
         (i.) 'DirectOS'
         (ii.) 'DirectOS.x32'
         (iii.)'DirectSound.x32'
         (iv.) '.DS_Store'
         (v.) 'Icon'

- the 'Lessons' folder containing 1 file:
         (i.)'BibleLessons.txt'.

Please do not delete any of these files. They are all necessary, including the 'Xtras' folder.

To start the program,

1. find the 'LaserTypingDL' folder (the folder you just created).

2. open the 'LaserTyping' file.

Your LaserTyping spaceship command center will be visible on your screen. In the blue field beneath the spaceship window, you can enter either the word 'demo' or the unlock code sent to you upon purchase. The first four lessons are fully functional without the unlock code.

Be sure to have your sound turned on and the speakers correctly oriented - i.e., the 'left' speaker on the left and the 'right' speaker on the right.

If the LaserTyping program says 'left' for a key on the left and the sound comes from a speaker on your right, reverse the speakers' locations. This is important for LaserTyping's audio prompts.

When you start the LaserTyping game, the first letter to type will be 'a'. It's on the very left of the home row ('asdfghjkl;'). The letter will appear and you 'shoot it down' by firing your laser cannon. If you do not, it will crack your windshield. If this happens, just continue with the game.  This is a good time to click on the 'click here for instructions' button to familiarize yourself with LaserTyping or you can go directly to the game if you wish.

If you can't find the 'a' key right away, you will receive further prompts until you shoot it down, after which the next key will be the 's', directly to the right of the 'a' key. You will soon learn the finger color coding. Always remember to begin with your fingers on the home row and nowhere else. Directions will always be given based on the position of your fingers on that home row.

Note: the full LaserTyping program is the same as the demo; you will not have to download it again to move up to the full program.

The program starts with basic 'learn your keys' lessons then progresses to more advanced letter combinations, word combinations, sentences, etc. You will see what to type next below the space screen.

Note that you can move to any lesson or switch to any skill level at any time. Click the 'setup' button to change this. The screen activation sound disappears when you practice at the intermediate or advanced levels.

There are 111 lessons included in the basic program.

To use external lessons, e.g., the King James Bible verses, click on the 'Lessons' button. The 'Lessons' folder will open. Click on 'BibleLessons.txt' to load the Bible verses.

And that's it!  Enjoy!
